Nigeria's Abeokuta Substation to Add 480MW by December 2026
The Federal Government of Nigeria is investing €161 million in the Abeokuta substation, enhancing power supply with an expected 480MW addition to the national grid by December 2026. This project is part of a broader initiative to modernize Nigeria's electricity infrastructure and address chronic supply challenges across the country.

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to enhance electricity supply with a new substation in Abeokuta, expected to add 480MW to the national grid by December 2026. This project, part of the Presidential Power Initiative, involves a €161 million contract with Siemens Energy to upgrade five brownfield substations across Nigeria, collectively contributing about 986MW to the grid.
Construction is progressing, with civil works anticipated to be completed between June and July, followed by electrical installations. The initiative aims to modernize aging infrastructure and significantly improve power delivery across Ogun State, addressing current issues with load shedding from Ikeja West. Countries in the region will benefit from this boost in supply.
