Nippon Biofuels Supplies Jatropha Biofuel Blend for RoRo Vessel Trial in Tokyo
Nippon Biofuels supplied a 10% jatropha-based biofuel blend for a RoRo vessel trial in Tokyo, Japan, conducted over seven days. The trial, supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, assessed jatropha-derived SVO as an alternative maritime fuel to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative aligns with global decarbonization efforts and could benefit Ghana's biofuel supply chain and rural development.

Nippon Biofuels conducted a trial using a jatropha-based biofuel blend on a RoRo vessel operated by Kuribayashi Steamship in Tokyo. The blend consisted of 10% jatropha-derived straight vegetable oil (SVO) mixed with conventional heavy fuel oil and was tested over a seven-day period.
This trial is part of a feasibility study supported by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to explore alternative fuels for maritime transport. Preliminary findings suggest minimal modifications are needed for existing vessel systems, offering a cost-effective alternative. Nippon Biofuels plans to expand jatropha cultivation in Ghana and establish a biodiesel processing facility to enhance local value addition.
