NLC Criticizes N8 Billion Budget Allocation for Electricity Bill Campaign in Nigeria
The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) has condemned the proposed N8 billion allocation in the 2025 federal budget aimed at educating citizens on electricity bill payments. The NLC argues that this funding reflects incompetence in addressing the deeper issues plaguing the power sector, including corruption and inefficiency.

The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) has denounced the Federal Ministry of Power's N8 billion budget proposal for 2025 focused on educating the public on paying electricity bills. The NLC's president, Joe Ajaero, criticized the initiative as a misallocation of funds amidst ongoing issues of corruption and systemic failures in the power sector, including over N200 billion owed to contractors by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Ajaero emphasized that the ministry's focus should shift towards addressing the root causes of power grid failures rather than launching educational campaigns. He expressed concerns that continued incompetence could lead to further erosion of public confidence in government institutions. The NLC plans to monitor developments closely and will mobilize against perceived waste in the budget process.
