Oricol and Cape Town Biogas to Convert 8000 Tonnes of Organic Waste into Biomethane and CO2 in South Africa
Oricol Environmental Services and Cape Town Biogas have partnered to address South Africa's landfill crisis by transforming 8000 tonnes of organic waste into recoverable commodities, including biomethane for energy, beverage-grade CO2, and nutrients for soil. This initiative is anchored by a bio-digestion facility in Athlone, the only one in Africa capable of simultaneously producing distinct high-value outputs.
The partnership is part of a broader strategy to divert organic waste, as organic materials contribute significantly to methane emissions in landfills. With a 100% organic waste landfill ban set for 2027 in the Western Cape, businesses face regulatory pressures to secure diversion pathways.
