Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a bio-remediation and bio-mining project at Ramchak Bairiya, aimed at reclaiming land for a new Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) facility. The project, part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, is estimated to cost ₹1,000 crore and will process municipal waste from Patna and 12 nearby urban local bodies.
An online tender has been issued for private sector participation, with bids closing on January 27. The funding structure includes 40% from the central government and 60% from private investors. The project targets processing over 800,000 metric tonnes of legacy waste, with reclamation expected to finish by June, freeing 62 acres. The ISWM facility will be among India's first to process 100% of collected waste, converting it into compost, compressed biogas, and generating 15 MW of electricity from non-recyclable waste.
