Pertamina Patra Niaga Leverages Water Hyacinth for Economic Growth and Environmental Solutions
Pertamina Patra Niaga's initiatives in South Sumatra and Central Java transform water hyacinth into economic assets, promoting sustainable community development. Programs like the Eceng Gondok Research and Creative Center (ERCC) and Ecobiz Cengklik demonstrate the potential of local resources in boosting income and environmental quality.

Pertamina Patra Niaga has implemented community development programs to convert water hyacinth from a nuisance into a valuable resource. In South Sumatra, the Eceng Gondok Research and Creative Center (ERCC) has generated Rp50 million in sales by producing air fresheners from water hyacinth biomass since 2023, with market reach in Palembang and surrounding areas.
In Central Java, the Ecobiz Cengklik program has been operational since 2022, converting water hyacinth into organic fertilizers and biogas, benefiting 88 direct participants and establishing a new farmer group. These initiatives have been showcased at the Indonesia International Environmental Technology and Innovation Expo & Conference (INVIROTECH), highlighting their role in local economic empowerment and environmental enhancement. The success of these programs is driven by local advocates promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
