Port of Gothenburg Advances Green Operations with Shore Power and Renewable Fuels by 2030
The Port of Gothenburg plans to implement shore power by 2030 and has signed a 25-year deal with Inter Terminals for biofuel bunkering. In 2025, renewable fuels will be accessible for vessels, with a hydrogen generator piloted for Stena Line. The port anticipates a 5,600-tonne CO2 reduction annually. Future projects include a hydrogen electrolyser and a new ferry terminal. The port handled 934,000 TEU in 2025, marking a record year, and will host the International Tug & Salvage Convention in May 2026.

The Port of Gothenburg aims to provide shore power to container ships by 2030 and has signed a 25-year agreement with Inter Terminals for biofuel bunkering facilities. By mid-2025, Furetank's fleet will operate on renewable fuels, and a pilot project in May 2025 tested a hydrogen-powered generator at Stena Line's terminal.
The port expects to reduce CO2 emissions by 5,600 tonnes annually. A hydrogen electrolyser is planned for 2029, producing 4 tonnes of hydrogen per day. In 2025, the port handled 934,000 TEU, a 4% increase from 2024. It will host the International Tug & Salvage Convention in May 2026.
