PowerWood Canada Acquires Land for Rail Spur to Enhance Biofuel Exports
PowerWood Canada Corp has acquired 175 acres in Mackenzie County, Alberta, for a rail spur aimed at enhancing the export of advanced black biofuel pellets. The CAD$1.1 million project will connect to the Canadian National Railway's Hay River Line and support two planned production facilities, which are expected to produce 350,000 tons of pellets annually and create over 500 jobs, while utilizing wildfire-damaged timber and incorporating reforestation efforts. Construction of the first plant, Peace River, is set to begin in spring 2026.

PowerWood Canada Corp has purchased 175 acres in Mackenzie County, Alberta for a rail spur to transport advanced black biofuel pellets for export. The spur will connect to the Canadian National Railway's Hay River Line and facilitate the transport of pellets from two planned production facilities.
The CAD$1.1 million acquisition was completed in December 2025, with construction of the first pellet plant, Peace River, set to begin in spring 2026, followed by Hay Meadow in 2027. The plants will produce 350,000 tons of pellets annually using steam explosion technology and will create over 500 jobs. The project utilizes wildfire-damaged timber and includes reforestation initiatives.
