PTPN IV PalmCo Operates Biogas Plants to Reduce Fossil Fuel Dependence in Riau
PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV PalmCo has initiated two biogas power plants in Riau, utilizing palm oil mill effluent (POME) to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. This strategy is part of a long-term commitment to renewable energy, with anticipated savings of approximately Rp 39.5 billion in energy costs over three years.

PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV PalmCo operates two biogas power plants, PLTBg Terantam and PLTBg Tandun, in Riau, processing over 293,000 cubic meters of palm oil mill effluent annually. From 2023 to 2025, the initiative is expected to reduce diesel consumption by over 2.6 million liters, significantly lowering operational costs.
The generated energy supports the PPIS Tandun Palm Oil Mill and demonstrates a shift towards sustainability in the palm oil industry. This model could serve as a reference for other agricultural sectors facing energy challenges.
