Pune Municipal Corporation Unveils Mega Infrastructure Plan with 54 km Tunnels and Zero Waste Initiative
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled a comprehensive infrastructure plan for the 2026-27 budget, featuring 54 km of underground roads, riverfront restoration projects, housing initiatives, and a zero-waste drive. Key elements include a 14.5 km twin tunnel project and a riverfront development aimed at enhancing tourism. The initiative also focuses on sewage treatment, pollution control, and waste management solutions.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced an extensive infrastructure plan for the 2026-27 budget, which includes 54 km of underground roads to alleviate traffic congestion, particularly a 14.5 km twin tunnel from Yerawada to Katraj. Riverfront development projects aim to enhance tourism with recreational facilities and improve riverbank conditions.
Pollution control measures include nearly completed sewage treatment plants and an expanded sewer network. The PMC's zero-waste strategy encompasses biogas plants, waste processing, and the modernization of public toilets. Six housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana are also planned.
