Punjab Approves Six Biogas Plants and Waste-to-Energy Project for Clean Energy Initiative

BIOFUELSSYNTHETIC FUELS

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the establishment of six biogas plants in Lahore and Faisalabad as part of a clean energy initiative. Four plants will be in Lahore and two in Faisalabad, aimed at providing affordable gas for households and producing bio-fertilizer for agriculture.

A feasibility study for a multiple-fuel biorefinery was also approved. Additionally, a waste-to-energy project in Lahore will generate low-cost electricity for electric buses and the metro system, with a directive for swift completion.

The chief minister included three pilot biogas projects in the Model Village program, which seeks to integrate clean energy with rural development. The ongoing Model Village initiative aims to enhance infrastructure in 224 villages, focusing on water supply, sanitation, and roads. The CM emphasized project timelines and public convenience, addressing complaints about road disruptions and water quality issues.
