Redwire Targets Lunar Lander and Power Systems for NASA's Moon Base Initiatives
Redwire is focusing on lunar landers and power systems in response to NASA's plans for a moon base over the next decade. The company's involvement in NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services contract positions it to capitalize on increased lunar activity.

Redwire has identified lunar landers and power systems as key opportunities aligned with NASA's plans for a moon base, announced on March 24, with a projected establishment timeline within the next decade. Despite being part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) contract, Redwire has not yet secured a task order, largely due to economic viability concerns linked to limited launch opportunities.
However, the expected frequency of lunar landings is prompting a strategic investment shift toward leveraging its prime contract position. Additionally, Redwire is developing technologies like Roll-Out Solar Arrays and Extensible Low-Profile Solar Arrays to support lunar infrastructure power needs.
The company is also involved in other sectors, including maneuverable geostationary orbit satellites, backed by a recently expanded $6.2 billion Space Force contract. In Q1 2026, Redwire allocated $12.6 million to research and development, resulting in an adjusted EBITDA loss of $9.2 million, as part of its growth strategy.
