Repsol Reduces 2030 Renewable Energy and Biofuel Targets Amid Rising Costs

BIOFUELSNATURAL GAS

Repsol has revised its 2030 renewable energy capacity target from 20 gigawatts to just over 10 gigawatts, focusing on projects in Spain and the United States. By the end of 2025, Repsol achieved 5.8 GW of installed capacity.

The company has also adjusted its biofuels production goals to 1.6-1.8 million tons and biomethane to 0.7-0.8 TWh, down from earlier projections. Challenges such as rising costs and regulatory issues have prompted this strategic shift. Repsol's long-term decarbonization goals remain intact, but medium-term objectives will align with current market realities, highlighting the tension between climate ambitions and financial viability.
