Saugus Approves National Grid Utility Pole Installation Amid Concerns
The Saugus Conservation Commission approved National Grid's proposal to install five utility poles during an electric upgrade. The project raises concerns over potential double poles and tree removal requirements.

National Grid's project to install five new utility poles in Saugus has been approved by the Conservation Commission. The poles are part of an upgrade linked to the decommissioning of a Lynn substation and involve removal of a tree on Hampton Street, which may impact a nearby silver maple.
Concerns were raised regarding existing double poles, which occur when new poles are installed without removing old ones. Town Engineer Todd Baldwin highlighted the prevalence of double poles in the area, urging for measures to ensure their removal if created. The Commission voted unanimously for a negative determination, allowing the project to proceed.
