SEA-LNG Reports Growth of LNG Bunkering to 222 Ports and 62 Vessels by 2025
SEA-LNG's report reveals that LNG bunkering is set to expand to 222 ports and over 62 vessels by 2025, reflecting significant growth from just one vessel in 2016. With over $150 billion invested in the last decade, LNG has become a mainstream marine fuel due to its energy density and cost benefits, alongside the emergence of bio-LNG and liquefied e-methane. The report emphasizes 2025 as a pivotal year for methane decarbonization in global shipping.

SEA-LNG's latest report indicates that LNG bunkering is now available at 222 ports worldwide, with the number of LNG bunkering vessels rising from one in 2016 to over 62 in 2025, and an additional 38 vessels on order. Over $150 billion has been invested in the last decade to promote LNG as a marine fuel.
LNG has transitioned from a niche solution in Northern Europe to a mainstream marine fuel globally, attributed to its energy density, availability, and cost advantages. The report also highlights the emergence of bio-LNG and the early-stage development of liquefied e-methane. According to SEA-LNG's COO, 2025 marks a significant advancement in the methane decarbonization pathway, with increasing amounts of liquefied biomethane powering global shipping.
