Silchar to Implement Citywide CCTV Network and Biogas Plant by 2026
Silchar Municipal Corporation plans to enhance urban safety and sustainability by installing CCTV cameras at 77 locations and considering a compost-based biogas plant by Oil India by 2026. The initiatives aim to curb illegal activities, improve waste management, and reduce landfill use, as the city currently generates about 100 tonnes of waste daily. Additionally, the corporation is strengthening Material Recovery Facilities and commercial waste collection systems as part of a comprehensive civic roadmap.

Silchar Municipal Corporation plans to install CCTV cameras at 77 locations to curb illegal activities and enhance waste management. A compost-based biogas plant by Oil India is also under consideration to reduce landfill use.
Current waste generation is about 100 tonnes daily. Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and commercial waste collection systems are being strengthened. Beautification projects and mechanized cleaning initiatives are part of a broader 2026 civic roadmap for urban cleanliness and sustainability.
