SoCalGas Integrates Renewable Natural Gas from WM Simi Valley Facility into Pipeline System

BIOFUELS

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) has begun accepting renewable natural gas (RNG) from the WM Simi Valley RNG Facility, marking its first connection with a landfill-based RNG site. The facility captures landfill gas from the Simi Valley Landfill, processes it into pipeline-quality RNG, and delivers it to SoCalGas's pipeline system for use in heavy-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, homes, and businesses.

Over $100 million has been invested in the facility, which is expected to produce approximately 2.2 million MMBtu of RNG annually, potentially avoiding 100,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year. SoCalGas aims to replace 20% of its traditional natural gas delivery with renewable sources by 2030, with RNG constituting 5.5% of its gas delivery to core customers in 2024. SoCalGas currently sources RNG from 10 production facilities.
