SpaceX Falcon 9 to Land at Vandenberg Space Force Base in May
SpaceX is preparing for a Falcon 9 rocket launch from Vandenberg Space Force Base on May 2, aiming for a return-to-base landing. This approach may result in sonic booms affecting residents in nearby counties, marking a shift from the usual ocean landings.

SpaceX will launch its Falcon 9 rocket on the CAS500-2 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base, with a launch window from 11:59 p.m. on May 2 to 12:36 a.m. on May 3. The mission involves landing the booster at Landing Zone 4 at the base, a method less common than ocean landings.
Residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may hear sonic booms during the landing, lasting up to 10 minutes post-liftoff. Notably, public viewing areas will be unavailable due to safety protocols, though several locations within a 10-mile radius may provide partial views. This launch underscores the increasing frequency of SpaceX's operations and its dual role in civil and military missions.
