Spain Introduces €50 Million RENOCogen Program to Boost Biogas and Cogeneration Projects

BIOFUELS

Spain has launched a €50 million grant program, RENOCogen, to support the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in power and heat production. This initiative, backed by the EU's NextGeneration Recovery Fund, aims to reduce emissions and enhance Spain's clean technology sector.

Grants can cover up to 65% of eligible project costs, with a maximum of €15 million per project. Applications are open from January 26 to March 2, and projects must be completed by June 30, 2029. Eligible technologies include biomass and biogas for cogeneration, as well as systems for heat production.

This program is part of a broader strategy that includes a €355 million initiative to boost domestic clean energy technology manufacturing. Spain aims to achieve 20 TWh of biogas production by 2030, meeting 10% of its gas demand and reducing fossil fuel reliance.
