Sparsholt College Apprentices Tour Apsley Farms' Renewable Energy Operations
First-year crop technician apprentices from Sparsholt College visited Apsley Farms in Andover to learn about renewable energy in agriculture. The 1,150-acre farm features an anaerobic digestion facility producing biomethane and renewable electricity for the national grid. The facility generates 114 GWh of biomethane and 9.4 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to supply around 10,000 homes. The visit aimed to demonstrate the integration of renewable energy, soil health, and crop production.

Agricultural apprentices from Sparsholt College toured Apsley Farms in Andover, a 1,150-acre farm with an anaerobic digestion facility. The farm generates 114 GWh of biomethane and 9.4 GWh of renewable electricity annually, enough to supply gas to about 10,000 homes.
The facility also produces sustainable liquid CO2, mulch, and dry ice. The visit aimed to illustrate how modern farming can be both productive and environmentally responsible, bridging theoretical learning with practical applications in renewable energy and agriculture.
