Sumitomo Corporation and TruAlt Bioenergy to Develop 16 CBG Plants in India

SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUELBIOPOWERBIOFUELS

Sumitomo Corporation partnered with TruAlt Bioenergy Limited to establish a compressed biomethane gas (CBG) business in India, involving the development of 16 CBG plants over three years. Operations will begin in phases from 2026, producing approximately 320 tonnes of CBG daily to meet the gas needs of around 800,000 households.

The initiative supports India's energy independence goals and aligns with government mandates for CBG blending in fuels. Initial plant construction will occur in Karnataka and Maharashtra, with plans to explore bioethanol and sustainable aviation fuel production.
