Sustayn Group to Expand Miscanthus Grass Cultivation for Biomass in Europe
Sustayn Group, based in Luxembourg, plans to cultivate Miscanthus grass, a renewable biomass crop, to provide sustainable alternatives to plastics and fossil fuels. The company aims to establish a large-scale operation across 5,000 hectares in France, starting with 500 hectares in 2026.
Miscanthus grows on degraded land, requires minimal maintenance, and has various applications including packaging materials and biofuel. Initial investment for cultivation ranges from €2,500 to €3,500 per hectare, making it a significant financial commitment for farmers.
Sustayn's strategy involves securing demand first, followed by land acquisition. The company emphasizes sustainable practices without relying on grants or subsidies, aiming for self-sustaining business models and double-digit returns for investors.
