Swedish Companies to Deliver BRT and Biogas Buses in Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria
BIOFUELS
Business Sweden is leading infrastructure initiatives in West Africa aimed at improving public transport. In Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, a feasibility study identified a bus rapid transit (BRT) system powered by biofuel from agricultural waste as sustainable.
Scania will deliver 450 biodiesel-compatible buses, supported by financing from the World Bank and African Development Bank. A similar model is being implemented in Lagos, Nigeria, where a study confirmed biogas buses are suitable, using municipal waste as energy. An agreement for 2,000 biogas buses was concluded in spring 2025.
