Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Launches G-Spider Robotic Canal Cleaner to Enhance Sanitation Safety
Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has launched the G-Spider, an AI-powered robotic canal cleaner, at the Amayizhanchan Canal to enhance sanitation safety and eliminate manual scavenging. Developed in collaboration with Genrobotic Innovations, the initiative aims to address safety concerns in high-risk areas, following incidents involving sanitation workers. The project also includes plans for several compressed biogas plants for improved waste management.

Thiruvananthapuram Corporation has commissioned G-Spider, an AI-powered robotic canal cleaning system, at the Amayizhanchan Canal near the railway station, aiming to eliminate manual scavenging and enhance sanitation worker safety. Launched by Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B.
Rajesh, this initiative is a collaboration with Genrobotic Innovations, which also developed the Bandicoot robotic scavenger. Genrobotics will cover the deployment costs, while the Corporation will oversee operations.
The project addresses safety concerns in a high-risk area where manual cleaning has led to serious incidents, including a sanitation worker's death. G-Spider utilizes cable-driven parallel robotics and AI for real-time waste detection and removal, enabling a fully automated cleaning process. Additionally, the state will establish several compressed biogas plants for waste management, with one located in Thiruvananthapuram.
