TUI Group Expands Sustainable Aviation Fuel Use to Support Emissions Reduction Strategy
TUI Group has ramped up its use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to support its emissions reduction strategy, consuming approximately 11,262 tonnes in 2021, a six-fold increase from 2020. The airline aims for net-zero emissions through operational efficiencies and sustainable practices across its portfolio, while also exploring new technologies and partnerships to enhance fuel efficiency. With SAF currently representing only 0.3% of total jet fuel consumption, TUI is committed to further expanding its use and reducing carbon emissions.

TUI Group has significantly increased its use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) as part of its emissions reduction strategy. In 2021, TUI's airline operations consumed approximately 11,262 tonnes of SAF, a six-fold increase from about 1,700 tonnes in 2024.
SAF is blended with conventional jet fuel and is produced from sustainable feedstocks to lower total lifecycle CO₂ emissions. TUI aims to achieve net-zero emissions through operational efficiencies and enhanced sustainability compliance across its portfolio, including hotels and cruise lines.
TUI Cruises has also begun using liquid biogas to reduce emissions. The aviation industry is under pressure to adopt low-carbon fuels, with SAF currently representing only an estimated 0.3% of total jet fuel consumption. TUI plans further expansion of SAF use and is exploring new technologies and partnerships to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
