Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt is investing ₹60 lakh to establish a biogas plant to address LPG shortages. The facility aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency while utilizing kitchen waste and cow dung, promoting green energy.

Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt is setting up a biogas plant with an investment of ₹60 lakh to mitigate the impact of LPG supply shortages. The plant, currently under construction near the gau shala, will process 750 litres of cow dung and 750 kg of kitchen waste daily, producing approximately 30-40 kg of biogas.
This initiative follows a plan from Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swami and is guided by Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha Swami. Additionally, eight new steam boilers have been installed, capable of serving 30,000 to 50,000 meals daily. The establishment of the biogas unit aims to provide a sustainable waste disposal solution and enhance energy independence.
