UEDCL Enhances Power Supply with New Lines in Uganda
UEDCL has commissioned new power integration lines at the Maya substation, effective immediately, to improve electricity reliability along the Masaka Road corridor. This $63,133 project aims to reduce outages, benefiting residential and industrial consumers by providing a more stable power supply.

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has completed the commissioning of new integration lines at the Maya substation to enhance electricity reliability and reduce outages across the Masaka Road corridor. Previously, customers in the area faced frequent power outages due to overloaded feeders; the new lines, linking the 220kV/132kV/33kV Maya substation to existing distribution networks, are designed to stabilize power flows and eliminate load shedding.
The first phase included 1.83 kilometers of overhead lines and a 33kV air-break switch, with an emphasis on minimizing fault impact and enhancing service reliability. The project is fully operational and currently utilizes 20% of its capacity, with plans for a second phase to extend improvements to high-demand areas.
In contrast, residents in Colva, India, report ongoing issues with a recently inaugurated LT overhead network, indicating a gap in service expectations versus reality. This highlights the importance of ensuring timely project delivery and maintenance in power infrastructure.
