UK Green Gas Support Scheme Extended to 2030, Boosting Biomethane and CHP Projects
The Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) in the UK has been extended to 31 March 2030, allowing new applications for biomethane production and CHP projects. Funded through the Green Gas Levy, the GGSS provides tariff support to accredited plants for up to 15 years, enhancing financial certainty for developers. This extension enables better project planning and aligns biomethane production with local energy demands, ultimately supporting decarbonization and Net Zero goals.

The Green Gas Support Scheme (GGSS) in the UK will accept new applications until 31 March 2030, following a mid-scheme review. The GGSS offers tariff support for biomethane production via anaerobic digestion, funded by the Green Gas Levy.
Participants can receive payments for up to 15 years, providing financial stability for projects. The extension allows developers to progress through planning and financing, ensuring alignment with local energy demands.
Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems utilizing biomethane improve carbon performance and efficiency, making them suitable for GGSS-supported projects. The extension enhances confidence in developing biomethane and CHP initiatives as part of the UK's decarbonization strategy.
