Uttar Pradesh to Install Mini Biogas Plants in Over 100,000 Homes
The Uttar Pradesh government plans to install mini biogas plants in over one lakh rural households, promoting clean energy and cow protection. This initiative aims to reduce LPG dependence and enhance rural incomes through organic manure production.

Uttar Pradesh is set to implement a program for over one lakh mini biogas plants in rural homes, costing between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 each. This initiative, led by the Uttar Pradesh Gauseva Commission, targets reduced LPG consumption and increased rural self-sufficiency through cow dung and organic waste utilization.
The biogas plants will not only provide clean cooking fuel but also produce nutrient-rich slurry as organic manure, potentially lowering dependency on chemical fertilizers. This integration of cattle rearing with renewable energy may strengthen cow protection and rural livelihoods, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision. The success of this model could position Uttar Pradesh as a leader in household-level biogas production.
