Vegetation and Overloaded Substation Cause Power Disruptions in Western Region, Ghana
Power outages in the Western Region of Ghana are linked to vegetation interference and an overloaded substation in Bogoso. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is implementing measures including a new line construction to enhance supply reliability.

In the Western Region of Ghana, power outages are primarily due to vegetation encroachment along transmission lines and an overloaded substation at Bogoso. The Bogoso Bulk Supply Point is currently overloading, impacting supply to Amenfi East and surrounding areas.
To mitigate outages caused by vegetation, ECG conducts annual maintenance to clear power corridors. A new line from Prestea to Bogoso is under construction to redistribute the load, with completion expected in one month. This intervention aims to improve power stability and address ongoing supply challenges in the region.
