Victoria Sugar Limited Expands Operations and Renewable Energy Production in Uganda
Victoria Sugar Limited (VSL) is enhancing its sugar production and renewable energy initiatives in Uganda, currently processing 3,000 tonnes of sugarcane daily and generating 15 megawatts of electricity from bagasse. With an investment of approximately US$150 million, VSL has expanded its land holdings in Kiryandongo District and plans to increase its energy output by an additional 3 megawatts from biogas by December 2025. This expansion not only boosts domestic food security but also promotes job creation and industrialization in the region.

Victoria Sugar Limited (VSL) is solidifying its role as a leading sugar manufacturer in Uganda, combining agricultural production with clean energy generation. As of March 2025, VSL was crushing an average of 3,000 tonnes of raw sugarcane daily, producing approximately 120 tonnes of brown sugar per day and around 36,000 tonnes annually, contributing significantly to domestic food security.
VSL's parent company secured an additional 10 square miles of land in Kiryandongo District for future expansion. The factory generates 15 megawatts (MW) of electricity from bagasse, with 10 MW exported to the national grid.
By December 2025, VSL plans to add 3 MW from biogas. The Victoria Group has invested an estimated US$150 million in Uganda, creating jobs and supporting industrialisation.
