Virginia Natural Gas and HRSD to Develop RNG Project at Atlantic Treatment Plant

WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATIONNATURAL GASBIOFUELS

Virginia Natural Gas has announced the approval of a renewable natural gas project at HRSD's Atlantic Treatment Plant in Virginia Beach, backed by a $31 million investment. This project aims to convert biogas, produced during wastewater treatment, into pipeline-quality natural gas, generating over 200,000 MMBtu annually.

This output is estimated to heat approximately 5,000 homes per year. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the facility operational by 2027. The initiative aligns with Virginia's Energy Innovation Act of 2022, incentivizing lower-carbon fuel investments.
