Water Management Challenges in Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor Amid Super El Niño
Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) is facing critical water management challenges due to projected population growth and climate impacts. Demand for water is expected to increase significantly by 2037, necessitating integrated public-private cooperation for sustainable management.

The EEC, covering Chonburi, Chachoengsao, and Rayong, anticipates a population rise from 3 million to 6 million by 2037, driving water demand. Total water demand in these provinces was 2,404.91 million cubic meters in 2017, projected to reach 2,777.68 million cubic meters by 2027, and 2,977.55 million cubic meters by 2037.
Key projects under Workstreams 1-3 will enhance long-term water management efficiency. The EEC Water Multi-Stakeholder Platform aims to address water challenges linked to economic growth and climate change through bulk water supply, demand management, and wastewater treatment. Failure to effectively manage these resources could jeopardize economic stability in the region.
