Weikersheim Initiates €8.3 Million Heating Oil Savings Project
Weikersheim is set to save 500,000 liters of heating oil annually through new energy infrastructure. The initiative, costing €8.3 million, is essential for meeting climate neutrality goals by 2045.

Weikersheim is implementing a project involving two block heat and power plants and a thermal energy storage facility, aiming for annual savings of 500,000 liters of heating oil. The initiative includes a four-kilometer gas pipeline connecting to a biogas plant, with generated heat designated for local facilities such as schools, a sports hall, and a swimming pool.
The total project cost is around €8.3 million, largely financed by BioEnergie Tauberhöhe, and must be completed by year-end to ensure funding. Success in this project could encourage similar rural energy initiatives in other regions.
