West Northamptonshire Council to Reassess Evenley Biogas Plant Proposal for Fourth Time
West Northamptonshire Council will review plans for a biogas plant in Evenley that converts manure into energy, after recognizing it should have been evaluated under the Northamptonshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan. The plant, proposed by Acorn Bioenergy, aims to generate enough power for 8,000 homes using significant amounts of agricultural waste. Despite previous rejections and community concerns over traffic and odors, planning officers have recommended approval with conditions. The discussion will take place on February 17, 2026.

West Northamptonshire Council will reassess Acorn Bioenergy's proposal for a biogas plant in Evenley on February 17, 2026. This will be the fourth review of the project, which aims to convert 21,000 tonnes of manure and dairy slurry, along with maize and straw, into biomethane, supporting energy for over 8,000 homes.
The proposal was initially approved in September 2025 but is being re-evaluated after officers acknowledged it should have been reviewed against the Northamptonshire Minerals and Waste Local Plan. Residents have expressed concerns regarding traffic and odors, while planning officers have recommended the project's approval, subject to conditions.
