Windham's New Sewer System Project Approaches Completion
Windham's new sewer system is set to commence operations in June 2026, addressing groundwater pollution issues. The project, initiated in 2021, aims to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus levels, improving local water quality.

The construction of Windham's North Windham Wastewater Treatment Plant is nearing completion, with operations expected to begin in June 2026. This facility, designed for a flow of 160,000 gallons per day and expandable to 320,000 gallons, aims to mitigate groundwater pollution exceeding EPA limits.
The project commenced in 2021, in collaboration with the Portland Water District, and includes multiple phases, with the sewage collection systems completed last year. Current efforts are underway to connect local businesses to the gravity sewer system.
Future plans include connecting the treatment plant to a new RSU 14 middle school set to open in 2027. This connection project will begin later this month.
