EIF Invests EUR 200 Million in CIP's Advanced Bioenergy Fund II for Biogas Expansion
The European Investment Fund (EIF) has committed EUR 200 million to support the Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II) by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). This investment aims to enhance Europe's energy security and promote the transition to renewable energy sources by scaling biogas production across multiple European countries.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has launched the Advanced Bioenergy Fund II (ABF II), backed by a EUR 200 million investment from the European Investment Fund (EIF). The fund aims to develop, build, and operate industrial-scale biogas plants, targeting a total fund size of EUR 1.5 billion to enhance Europe's renewable energy capacity.
The projects will focus on converting agricultural waste into biomethane, contributing significantly to decarbonization efforts in sectors like industry and transport. With this investment, CIP plans to construct 10 to 12 new biogas facilities across Denmark, Finland, Spain, Belgium, England, Ireland, and possibly Italy. This initiative is critical amid ongoing global energy challenges, particularly related to external gas supplies, which have increased the urgency for energy independence in Europe.
