Ireland Allocates €20M for Energy Research Initiatives
The Irish government has committed €20 million to support 34 energy research projects, including 25 RD&D initiatives and 9 fellowships. This funding aims to enhance energy independence and sustainability in response to evolving global energy dynamics.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) has allocated €20 million for 34 energy research awards in 2025, part of the National Energy Funding Programme. The funding covers 25 Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) projects and 9 Energise Fellowships targeting areas like offshore wind, bioenergy, and carbon capture.
Notable UCD projects include Advanced Rock Anchoring for Offshore Renewable Energy and a spatial mapping framework for renewable technologies. This initiative aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support energy security and affordability in Ireland. The projects are positioned to leverage cutting-edge technology and international best practices, potentially transforming the country's energy landscape.
