Microsoft Secures 650k BECCS Carbon Credits from BioCirc in New Agreement
Microsoft has signed a 7-year agreement with BioCirc to purchase 650,000 carbon removal credits, marking its first major carbon removal deal since a reported pause in purchases. This agreement supports Microsoft's goal of becoming carbon negative by 2030 and enhances BioCirc's ability to scale its carbon capture and storage operations.

Microsoft will offtake 650,000 carbon removal units (CRUs) from BioCirc over seven years, starting in late 2026. Each CRU represents one metric ton of carbon dioxide captured and stored from renewable sources at BioCirc's biogas plants in Denmark.
The deal follows reports of Microsoft pausing carbon credit purchases, although the company maintains that its carbon removal program remains active. The partnership aims to support Microsoft's climate goals and facilitate BioCirc's growth in integrated renewable energy solutions. This agreement highlights the continuing demand for durable carbon removal solutions in the market.
