PLN EPI Aims for 15% Biomethane Utilization by 2030 with Trials in North Sumatra
PLN Energi Primer Indonesia targets a 10-15% biomethane utilization rate by 2030, with trials in Medan focused on biomass co-firing. The initiative could save Rp1 trillion and create 150,000 jobs while reducing carbon emissions significantly.

PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) is establishing itself as an investor in biomethane with a target utilization rate of 10-15% by 2030. The plan includes achieving a biomass co-firing utilization of 3-4% in power plants, expanding to a long-term goal of 10% based on regulatory requirements.
Economic benefits from this initiative could amount to savings of approximately Rp1 trillion and the creation of up to 150,000 jobs. The project also aims to cut carbon emissions by 20 million tons of CO2 equivalent, leveraging biomethane production from Indonesia's 300 palm oil mills, which could generate 13 LNG cargoes annually.
